Big names vs best for a project
featured the twenty something of the day and say Jennifer Anniston along side of George Clooney I doubt the movie would have been the success it was.Anna Kendrick can play a pouty teen as she does in the Twilight Saga and Vera Farmiga , an accomplished actress with an impressive filmography though not a household name, brought a realism to the story. They drew us into the story. Sometimes an all star ensemble helps the story like Ocean's Eleven , other times the movie goer just sees "the star" not the character. Hopefully Hollywood will figure this out especially as they continue to buy the rights to popular novels with established followings. That said when I read who some fans would cast I am stunned!I admit a bias where Ben Browder is concerned but I don't think him perfect for every role I read about! That said he is perfect for Reacher ,the Lee Child hero, and I could see him as Blomkvist in the upcoming American version of Girl With the Dragon Tatoo(though why we need an American version I don't know).

Ben Browder is Jack Reacher

Hollywood likes to ruin novels when they buy the rights. Why TPTB think they know better than the millions who have read and re-read books and come to be invested in the characters is beyond me.Sometimes taking a chance works as with "The Bone Collector".Denzel Washington became Linclon Rhyme to me despite bearing no resemblance to a man who looked like Montgomery Clift.Kristen Stewart is Bella of the Twilight Saga.Tom Hanks is so NOT Langford of the Dan Brown novels and I was unable to overcome that that it ruined "The Da Vinci Code" for me despite it being a beautifully done film. Langford is 40's,dark blonde hair, square jaw, atheletic.....hmmmmm....Ben Browder! Paramount Studios owns the rights to Lee Child's "One Shot" which has been adapted for the screen by Josh Olson. Jack Reacher is an ex-Army MP (in some novels still is an MP),dark blonde, tall, muscled, blue eyes. Now hardcore Reacher fans are fixated on his height(6'5"). Moot point from my 6" perspective!Reacher is a gray character with integrity and a code that isn't black and white. An intellectual actor is needed not an ex WWF.Rumor has it Paramount wants a "name".Understandable except when the character will be bringing in alot of the initial ticket sales and people will see that initial poster or trailer and say "That's not Reacher!" and not buy a ticket.Let your feelings be known :

Let's get started

Hi everyone!
I want to start off by saying this blog does NOT reflect Ben Browder's views or thoughts(hopefully he will ever see it!) just random thoughts of an action figure.
The man himself will be in Australia next month :http://www.thehubproductions.com/events/stargate-2010/home
I won't. I have been there---lost a hand in Kuranda as a matter of fact. I am confident the fans Down Under will give Ben a warm welcome and not be like some who see him as a usurper. Acting is a profession where about 5% of those who call themselves are actually able to pursue their career and be paid for it. Actors don't always take a job because they feel it is the dream script or an amazing character.I can enjoy SG1 but after SciFi got it's hands on it and went to using a stable of writers, it stopped being character driven which had made it different. Ben didn't force RDA to retire O'Neill but many fans don't seem to get that. Mitchell was a difficult character to introduce and doomed in many ways no matter what choices were made by the writers or the actor. Ben answers fan questions thoughtfully and pretty honestly which after 10 years of following the guy still surprises me. Fans who don't know an actor's whole body of work shouldn't expect the actor to be as taken with a series as they themselves are when questions are asked/answered. In LA last fall may SG1 fans seemed surprised that plot twists on SG1 were predated by the same or similar twists seen a few years earlier on Farscape.Ben honestly referenced them. Many were done better on Farscape becausethe writing was less rigid and the emphasis was on the characters not the action sequences. Farscape held the Guiness record for most visual effects of an episodic series as of July 2009 but they were a organic part of the series not the focal point.
